NONFICTION BOOK REVIEW #2020-029 - Beliefs: What You Must Know About Seventh-day Adventism

GETTING TO KNOW ABOUT THE SDAs, GETTING TO KNOW ALL ABOUT THEM

I read this book via an Amazon KINDLE Unlimited download.
What my precise faith is not of any importance, but what matters is how I express myself regarding the faith. I’m amazed at how basically all Christians celebrate the seventh day on Sunday. I’m also surprised how the Roman Catholics perpetually violate the 2nd Commandment by having Christ on the Cross in front of the church and have statues of various saints throughout the rest of it, statues to which the parishioners pray.

All Christian faiths seem to celebrate the Lord’s day on Sunday; however, those who are Seventh Day Advent [SDA] practitioners and mark it on Saturdays instead. All one needs to do to have a non-sectarian reason for Saturday is to look at any calendar. All weeks start on Sundays and end on a Saturday. The biblical reference to the seventh day, the day of rest, can be found clearly stated in GENESIS 1:31, 2:1-3.

Due to my limited understanding of the SDA faith, I look at it as its followers desire to live their lives as the Lord did. They desire to follow Him in His way of keeping the Sabbath day as holy as possible. But there’s a lot more to the SDA faith, and to better understand it, one needs to look at this church’s history to attain the reasons and better understand the biblical rationale for what they believe.

This book written by Dr. Howard Shin provides the SDA’s history and the biblical rationale quite succinctly regarding the reason[s] for its existence, and in doing so, he has clearly fulfilled the premise of the book’s title, “Beliefs: What You Must Know About Seventh-day Adventism.”

For wanting readers, regardless of their religion, to be able to see behind the veil of the SDA religion and remove their ignorance concerning it, as a rather voracious book reviewer of nonfiction Christian books, I’m giving the author and his endeavor here 5 STARS.

DAILY SCRIPTURE REFLECTION #20 - ISAIAH 41:10 [NKJV]

Sorry for this late posting as I had been busy rectifying the cancellation of my scheduled date for surgery on March 6th due to the availability of a certain piece of medical equipment needed to perform the procedure. Being busy reading/reviewing another nonfiction Christian book, and being busy handling nonserious family issues.

Today's topic concerns the dichotomy of loving and fearing the Lord at the same time:

“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

Let us reflect on this today and let us say AMEN.

NONFICTION BOOK REVIEW #2020-028 - God-Minded: Living God-Focused in a Me-Focused world

IN ACHIEVING ONE’S GOALS, YOU MUST FIRST BELIEVE IN YOURSELF

I read this book via an Amazon KINDLE Unlimited download.

The questions the author of this book, Britney Renae Thompson, raises at the beginning of the description for her book is all too true for the vast majority of individuals. To begin with, I believe that these individuals seem to be forgetting what we read in both MATTHEW 7:7 [NKJV] and LUKE 11:9 [NKJV]

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”

In the pages of the author’s book, Ms. Thompson desires her readers to believe that anything is possible, only if they set their minds to it. And if you’ve got any doubt in this occurring you need to look no further than to what’s written in MARK 9:23 [NKJV]:

“Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”

However, when it comes to achieving any goal, we first need to get past the barriers that have gotten placed in front of us, and for this, we’re like children and need to be led to the answers we need to achieve our desired goal. Ms. Thompson, in her wanting to guide her readers to make this end a reality, she blends her knowledge of scripture and her personal life experiences to set an example of what they need to do and thereby fulfilling the directive we find in TITUS 2:7 [NKJV]

“in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility,”

For wanting to transform her Christian “sisters” from being a doubter regarding what they desire to achieve to become a believer in regards to the same goal, I’ve given Ms. Thompson 5 STARS for her efforts.

TODAY'S SUPPLICATION TO THE LORD #6

NONFICTION BOOK REVIEW #2020-27 - Grow in the Grace: Spiritual Growth Lessons from Peter's Walk with Jesus

LEARNING TO EXPERIENCE THE LORD AT A HIGHER LEVEL

Any individual who reads this book who happens to be Christian already knows the Lord wants them to be with him and to talk to Him, and by following Him in His teachings, walk alongside Him in the path of righteousness. This book the book offers believers answers to the daily struggles the world in that we live in are required to endure, which I believe the author succeeds in his intention in giving believers in the Lord through the scriptures the book contains.

What the author of this book, James Callen, apparently wants his readers to do through the book’s pages, is to step into Peter’s shoes as he interacts with the Lord, Jesus, as they experience transformational spiritualistic growth in their lives. And like any devotion book, one might read, at the end of each chapter, readers get ideas for their thoughts and reflections, ideas that are designed to increase their relationships with the Lord.

I believe there’s an intrinsic sense of ecstasy when Christians can have in having read this book as they begin to follow the Lord explicitly, a feeling which I believe is epitomize by Merle Haggard’s song; He Walks with Me:

I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear falling on my ear
The son of God discloses

And he walks with me, and he talks with me
And he tells me I am his own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known

For wanting his Christians to experience the grandeur of being able to have a more meaningful conversations with the Lord as they begin to walk in His footsteps, as a voracious reviewer of nonfiction Christian books I’m giving Mr. Callen the 5 STARS he’s garnered from his endeavor here.

NONFICTION BOOK REVIEW #2020-026 - February is Love: Women's Daily Devotional

DEVOTIONS DEVOTIONS - FEBRUARY IS THE MONTH OF LOVE SO WHY NOT A DEVOTION BOOK ABOUT LOVE

I read this book via an Amazon KINDLE unlimited.

There’s something special about devotions, devotions which usually get written in books for and about women, and written by them as well. Devotions are designed for readers to reflect upon a myriad of topics relevant to Christian women regardless of their denomination, from their unique place in the eyes of the Lord when it comes to themselves, family, and service to Him.

Love is a devotional topic that continuously gets touched upon during other devotions, and since February is considered by many to be the month of love [especially February 14th], this devotional book written by Sparrow Brooks.

We get continuously taught in the scripture about the topic of love and that we should love others as we love ourselves. One of the essential areas of love usually deals with the love between a husband and his wife, which we can find in:

ECCLESIASTES 9:9 [NKJV]
Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of your vain life which He has given you under the sun, all your days of vanity; for that is your portion in life, and in the labor which you perform under the sun.

What Ms. Brooks has done daily in her book is to get readers to show love to all others, as is, I believe gets stated in

2 THESSALONIANS 2:13 [NKJV]
But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth.

For each day, the author gives her readers a specific verse of scripture regarding the topic of love, and then like Lord telling his parables to illustrate a particular lesson, Ms. Brooks relates a story of her own life experiences and how it correlates with the scripture she had chosen for that day. At the end of each day’s devotion, readers get asked to reflect on what they’ve read as it pertains to their own lives.

For wanting to enlighten her readers as to the importance of love in their daily lives, and especially towards others, I happy to give Ms. Brooks 5 STARS for her endeavor here.

NONFICTION BOOK REVIEW #2020-025 - Moving From Pain to Peace: A Journey Toward Hope

THERE ISN’T A SOUL WHO HASN’T EXPERIENCED PAIN IN THEIR LIVES

I read this book via an Amazon KINDLE unlimited download.

Let’s face it; there isn’t a soul who hasn’t some pain/loss in their lives, stemming from a myriad of circumstances. The unfortunate thing is that the vast majority of individuals have no idea of who they can turn to in their hour of need. Christians are a bit more fortunate in this regard since they’ve got the Lord and His book, the Bible.

Of all the books in the Bible, I find that PSALMS is a treasury of knowledge when it comes to this suffering, for it’s fraught with individuals who have cried out to the Lord in regards to their despairs, pains, loss, impediments, etc. At the same time, PSALMS teaches us about the comfort the Lord gives when we are in His presence amid our pain, as we recall His wondrous faithfulness and kindness.

If we read PSALM 4 [NKJV] in verse, we find:

Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness!
You have relieved me in my distress;
Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer.

While PSALMS might be a part of what one needs to combat their plight, it’s not the entire solution; and for that, one needs to have a guide who is familiar with the Bible as a whole; which is what the author of this book, Tammy Kennington, has become with the writing of this book. Ms. Kennington desires to take her readers on a journey through supplication and scripture as they’re journalizing it that has gotten designed to inspire them hopefully tackle their issues, become straightforward with the Lord, as they invite Him into the inner reaches of their hearts, all to go from being a pain sufferer to an individual who is at peace with themselves and the world.

The author’s aspiration to accomplish this through the pages of this book for her readers is the reason this reviewer of nonfiction Christian books has given the author 5 STARS.

NONFICTION BOOK REVIEW #2020-024 - God Still Provides: Docs (50) Amazing Stories of Supernatural Provision

I BELIEVE IN YOU LORD, I BELIEVE IN YOU

I read this book via an Amazon KINDLE Unlimited download.

For some reason, I couldn’t help but sense the well-known secular song The Impossible Dream playing in my mind; perhaps the reason for this to have occurred is rooted in the fact that we all have dreams of accomplishing something in our lives, something which according to our current state of affairs, can only get described as being impossible.

There are many aspects of the lyrics of the song, which are part and parcel of our quest to reach our desired accomplishment. Our journey to achieve this can seemingly be like an unbeatable foe, and our inability to reach our goal might create an unbearable sorrow. Despite this, we’re still willing to persevere even though our arms and our spirits are too weary of getting us to reach our unreachable star, and no matter how hopeless this quest might be, we’re willing to do almost anything.

What the author of this book, Doc Yeager has done, has been to share his personal supernatural experiences of the 50 impossible things that could have only transpired with the grace and intervention of the Lord in the life of his entire family and himself.

Even though as we read in both MATTHEW 7:7 [NKJV] and LUKE 11:9 [NKJV]

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”

We’re still in relative disbelief of what has transpired in the author’s and his family’s life. But in the end, the faith of all those who read this book, will exponentially as we recall what’s written in MARK 9:23 [NKJV]

“Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”

For wanting to have his reader’s lives to attain the best relationship possible with the Lord through their increased belief in what He’s capable of doing, I’ve given Mr. Yeager the 5 STARS he deserves.

'IT HAD ONLY BEEN A GAME" - SNIPPET #3

If you haven’t read a snippet on this blog before, then read this first.

This snippet comes from my debut YA/NA Christian romance story entitled, “It Had Only Been a Game.” It is design to give you an idea of what is going on in various parts of the storyline.

FROM CHAPTER 21

After coming back from their celebratory dinner together for Brian’s new promotion which got paid for by his company, Chelsea had to inquire, “Are you sure you can charge the expensive meal we’ve just eaten.”
“I’m positive as everyone involved with the deal got told to take their spouses out for dinner, and you’re the closest thing I’ve got to having a spouse,” replied Brian as he gave Chelsea a hug and a surprise kiss on her lips.
“Aren’t you afraid someone might see and report us.”
“Nonsense. It’s nighttime, we’re in a secluded area near your dorm, and besides, we’re still in my car with the top down.”
“You’re right. I always get worrisome with things like this.” After this, she returned a kiss to Brian.
Brian then drove Chelsea to the front of the dorm just as Sister Beatrice began locking the doors.
“You’re just made it, Ms. Bailey. Another minute and you would have been locked out and would need to wake me to open the door again.”
“I know the rules quite well, and I am well aware of the embarrassing punishment you hand out for violating this one.”
Chelsea turned and waved at Brian, still sitting in his car but with the top now down before heading to her room. Getting there, she found that Amanda hadn’t returned yet and wondered where she could be.
Chelsea decided to take a nice, hot, fragrant bubble bath for a change, and after lounging in the bathtub until all of the bubbles had disappeared, she showered to remove the soap residue and then popped into her bed, dressed for a night’s sleep after a very rememberable day.
All of a sudden, shortly passed midnight Chelsea got woken out of her sleep by Amanda.
“How the heck did you get in with all of the doors securely locked by Sister Beatrice?”

"IT HAD ONLY BEEN A GAME' - SNIPPET #2

If you haven’t read a snippet on this blog before, then read this first.

This snippet comes from my debut YA/NA Christian romance story entitled, “It Had Only Been a Game.” It is design to give you an idea of what is going on in various parts of the storyline.

FROM CHAPTER 11

Grabbing Chelsea’s hand, Brian instructed her not to say another word until they would arrive at his destination.
No doubt, Chelsea wasn’t pleased by his behavior, a behavior she’d never had seen before. Furthermore, she wasn’t pleased with his pulling her along by her hand so fast; she could barely keep up with him.
“Stopping dragging your feet, Chelsea. I’ve got some important news we need to talk about.”
All of a sudden, Chelsea sees a familiar site coming into view, it’s the enclave they’ve been to several times already when they wanted some real privacy.
That sweet, sneaky Brian, trying to get me angry enough that I wind up yelling at him so that I’d have to apologized and kiss him.
I wonder if what he wants to tell me has to do with the mysterious comment he made at the diner while we had our lunch, the explanation which he couldn’t go into any details.
If that’s the case, the intuition which I’ve inherited from my mother, the critical news he wants to talk about, has to deal with the part-time job offer he told me about when we first met.
I’ll play it calm, and won’t overreact enthusiastically for his good fortune, when he finally reveals his secretive message.
I won’t even give him the obligatory he’s probably expecting me to give him.
We’re almost there.
I’ll transform myself into the coy, unexpecting woman he’d love for me to be.
“We’re here, Chelsea.”
“So, we’re here. Right in front of our favorite spot on campus for intimacy. Why couldn’t you have just me you wanted us to have some?”
“The reason I brought you here has nothing to do about us being intimate with each other.”
“You better have not found another woman you’d rather be with.”
“You know I can never have anyone besides you, my dear Chels. We’ve known each other since we’ve been about five-years-old,” nervously replied Brian.
“So, give my dear Brian. What’s up?”
Once they were in their hidden enclave spot, Brian attempted to hug Chelsea so he could kiss her.
