"CHRISTIAN SHORT STORIES & ESSAYS" - SNIPPET #1

If you haven’t read a snippet on this blog before, then read this first.

All the items in this book revolve around having a prompt word. In this snippet selection, as you can see, the prompt word has gotten transformed into an acrostic around which the story got written,

PROMPT WORD = ASCENSION

NUMBER 40

AShley Warden has always been a devout church-going girl since the day she was born.

CEcil Peterson has, for the last 25 years, been the lay leader of the church where Ashley’s family has gone to and where she had gotten baptized.

Every Sunday without fail, her parents made sure she was in her Sunday school, which Cecil also lead.

Nothing Cecil could say, would get pass Ashley’s curious young mind.

Striking questions came out of Ashley’s mind each week, questions which most adults could never have thought of asking.

It never had even come to Cecil’s mind that she might ask a question that would be truly profound.

Ordinally, Ashley would accept the answers Cecil would give her, but on one particular Sunday, she didn’t. The class that Sunday dealt with the Lord’s ASCENSION to Heaven. Ashley’s question hadn’t been about anything about that glorious event; it dealt with a number, the number 40 to be precise.

Number 40, Ashley knew had been the number of days it took after the Lord’s resurrection to go to Heaven and sit next to his Father. But why had it been 40 days, and not seven which had been the number of days of Creation, nor three which she knew was the Holy Trinity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, had been the question she wanted answered, a question Cecil Peterson couldn’t provide an answer one for, a subject she’s hoping the Lord will answer one day.
